Creating a space to honour your home.
- Clear a space in your main living area & physically clean it.
- Turn & offer peace to all 6 directions, then “may there be peace to the spirit of this place”.
- Put a little gift to the spirit of the place on the floor in a dish. A piece of fruit or other such offering. Remove the offering the next day & dispose of it without eating it.
- Bless the shrine with some sprinkled water, saying “May the power of water, the mercy or love, bless this shrine.” Be aware of the water washing away any impurities.
- Bless it with incense or burn dried herbs, saying “May the power of air, the breath of life bless this shrine.” Be aware of the wind blowing the shrine clean.
- Bless it with a small stone, saying “May the power of earth, the stability of earth’s law, bless this shrine.” Be aware of the molecular pattern & shape of the shrine forming itself into a sacred receptacle that will hold the blessing of your shrine.
- Bless it with a lit candle, saying “May the power of fire, illumination of light, bless this shrine.” Be aware of the hearth-fire warming the shrine & sending illuminating protection to all parts of the house.
- Set whatever you have chosen to place on your shrine, saying “In the name of the source of life, I establish this shrine to protect the hearth of my home; may peace, plenty, health & joy dwell here“.
- Sit quietly by your shrine & commune with the sacred centre of your home. Feel the power of your shrine pervading every room.
- Daily, light a candle on your shrine & renew the blessing that lives in the heart of your home.
Other home protection practices (Before doing these, first do the Meeting Your Guardian Advocate practice).:
- Ask your advocate to show you a symbolic threshold design that you can use on your threshold. These patterns tangle intrusions & forbid them entry. Renew them every new moon.
- Ask your advocates to show you a sacred protective symbol to place on the way in or out of your home.
- With aid of your advocates, get to know the spirit of the piece of land your home is built on. This spirit may be willing to be a guardian of your home if you establish a good relationship with it. Leave it on watch when you go out, remember to thank it.
An anonymous latin home blessing:
Pax intrantibus (peace to all comers), Salus exeuntibus (health to all who depart), Benedictio habitantibus (blessing to all who live here)
